The 2007 MediSun Shines!

It was a beautiful and sunny weekend at the TradeWinds Island Resort in St. Pete Beach during the 2007 MediSun. The symposium proved both educational and enjoyable for the many attendees who flocked from Hillsborough, Manatee, Pinellas, and Sarasota Counties.

Friday evening’s luau certainly added to the festivities, including two dancers who came to show their stuff and decorative leis and hula attire sported by the CMA members, sponsors and attendees alike. Many stayed until dark, enjoying their cocktails and watching the exuberant fireworks show on the beach presented by the TradeWinds.

The sponsors who are to thank for the success of the May 18th & 19th event are: CMA Staffing, Digital Access Transcription, Inc., First Professionals Insurance Company, Florida Healthcare Providers Insurance Exchange, the Florida Medical Association, Kern, Augustine, Conroy & Schoppmann, P.C., Sage Software, Total Doctor Solutions, LLC, and Visionary Medical Systems, Inc.. Without their support, this medical educational symposium would not have been possible.

The door prizes, given away throughout the symposium, added a little more flair to the already great agenda. Prizes and winners included: Festa Stuff T-shirt, won by Tracey Turner; 2 Gift Baskets donated by Digital Access Transcription, won by Merci Beiro, and Billie Vazquez; a gift basket donated by FLHPIX, won by Mary Ann Del Guice; a hula tie donated by Melissa Miller-Boudreau, won by Lourdes Morris; a pair of custom made flip-flops by Tootzies by Caryn, won by Susan Mitchell; Star-Lite Dinner Cruise for three, won by Dr. Benjamin Marquez; lunch/dessert for two to Crispers, won by Jean Marie Gonzalo; 3 medical office books donated by A-Z Medical Supply, won by Barbara Thomsen, JoAnn Stephenson, and Kim Halback; a $250 gift certificate to the International Mall, won by Susan Marquez, a $100 gift certificate donated by International Diamond Center, won by Teresa David; and an I-Pod donated by Kern, Augustine, Conroy & Schoppmann, PC, won by Mathy Rathanisamy.

The retreat wasn’t just about the goodies, however. Many speakers throughout the weekend provided informative presentations on topics including Risk Management, Medical Billing, Disaster Recovery Planning, Electronic Medical Records, Practice Management and National Provider Identifiers. A sincere “thank you” goes to the speakers who provided their time and energy toward providing these educational and informational presentations to the attendees: Glenda Henderson, Scott Jones, Wes McLeod, Joe Putz, Teresa Rump, Michael Schoppmann, and Wanda Strayhan-Raymond.

One attendee exclaimed there were “excellent topics/speakers. Best conference I’ve attended. Look forward to next time.” Another quipped, “I enjoyed the conference and hope to come in the future.” You are in luck; the 2008 MediSun, being spearheaded by the Pinellas County Medical Association, is already in the works. Look for this upcoming event in the spring, 2008, and don’t get left out of the “Sun!”
