Reasons to Join HCMA

• The laws and bills the HCMA and FMA fight for, in the interest of physicians and their patients, start at the local level. We work to keep bureaucracy, red tape, and physician costs to a minimum.
• The HCMA works in unity with the FMA, specifically during the legislation session each year. This year, due to continued hard work and much efforts, SB 1122 (the assignment of benefits bill) was signed into law. This legislation requires that insurance companies send payment directly to out of network physicians, avoiding needless delays and unnecessary burdens for both physicians and patients. Scope of practice issues also continue to remain priority and efforts persist each year on behalf of all physicians.
• The FMA is making great strides in establishing a peer review mechanism for medical expert witnesses who testify falsely, or outside the standard of care in OUR community, solely for monetary gain. This program is a direct result from the efforts of the HCMA’s Expert Witness Committee.
• The HCMA Delegation to the FMA authors and submits resolutions to the FMA, which are forwarded to the legislature or the appropriate entity for action.
• HCMA’s Benefit Provider program is uniquely designed for members only. The program provides value to physicians with discounted products and/or services that, when utilized, far exceed the cost of annual HCMA dues. A list of Benefit Providers is included in the HCMA packets that Julie is distributing.
• The HCMA’s award winning bi-monthly publication, The Bulletin, will keep you updated along with regular e-mail and fax updates. The latest issue of The Bulletin is available at our exhibit table.
• The Hillsborough Medical Political Action Committee (HILLPAC) meets with our local representatives and supports PRO-MEDICINE candidates and legislators.
• The HCMA’s partnership with the Physicians’ Counsel provides free legal advice to members.
